Accuracy and inaccuracy..Vietnam?
All three are accurate. Like asking which is accurate and inaccurate about America: OK Corral, Tiger Baseball, or Daniel Boone, it depends when, where, who, and how. Matt is wrong ( sorry Matt ) life in the cities particularly Vung Tao and Saigon were well depicted in "Good Morning Viet Nam". Vung Tao was an R&R cite for all forces: Australian, American, Korean, English, ..even for our enemies: the North Vietnamese. ( No guns were allowed inside the city limits ) We drank and partied together in the same night clubs and bars. Anybody that denies those facts, or tells you differently was never in country. Likewise, combat was ferocious, but Apocolypse showed the dirty under belly of the black market which thrived in Vietnam. Children were sold ( $500 for a girl and $300 for a boy ) beer was a nickel a bottle and Agent Orange was only one chemical used. ( We also had Agent Blue, green, and yellow ) The Viet Cong were smart, resourseful, and determined. In the final years of the war Americans were disarmed. Our rifles were taken away from us, and on the river patrol boats where mortar tubes and 50 caliber machine guns once sat, the government mounted "Water Cannons". Guns were only available on the black market: $38 for a .38 cal and $45 for a .45 acp pstol. Learned enough yet? Do you wonder why RVN Vets are bitter? Because we watched our friends die without being allowed to shoot back, and we were assigned to teach back stabbing chinese communist soldiers to run their own country. Meanwhile, we pushed millions of dollars woth of new dozers, graders, trucks, cranes and equipment into holes in the ground and set them afire ( so the communists wouldn't get them. ) Drugs were very available and "Con Sai".. "Thai Sticks" and opium were not only cheap, but 100 times stronger than American Marijuanna. We watched from Vetnam as the Whitehouse in DC was fire bombed by students, and came home to be spit on by strangers in airports and have fresh manure thrown on us. Yeah, it's all disgusting, it's varied and unbelieveable, but True. I did three tours there and I can tell you first hand that all three movies show different parts of reality as it was in the provinces of South Viet Nam and Cambodia.
