Can you help me with this European History question?
The Islamic world was apparently home to the world's first constellation of institutions of higher learning -- madrasahs. Yet they differed fundamentally from medieval European universities, which were the true forerunner of what today are the world's most important centers for the advancement of learning and knowledge. Islamic doctrine also incorporated a highly developed legal system that was in more widespread usage than any other until the emergence of Western law. How were universities and the law related in European history and how did they contribute to the rise of the West?
